Jiayue Sun is a young soprano focusing on classical performance including a focus on lieder. Jiayue has a deep passion and love for music which she expresses through performance. She has performed in many public performances on the stages of both the Peabody Institute and Manhattan School of Music, including works by Mozart, Schubert, Amy Beach, and more.
Most recently, Jiayue has sung with the Peabody NEXT ensemble, “Peabody’s premiere mixed vocal ensemble specializing in the performance of new, early, x- disciplinary, and transformative repertoire”. She is also singing with the Peabody Hopkins Conservatory Choir, a large choir composed of conservatory students, Johns Hopkins students, and Baltimore community members, performing works such as Carmina Burana by Carl Orff and Durfle’s Requiem. She had also sung with Peabody’s Conductor’s choir, a recital choir for conducting students, and numerous choirs in the past including the Connecticut All-State and NAfME All-Nationals Honors choirs.
In addition to her choral performances, Jiayue is an active soloist. In March of 2026, Jiayue participated and received third prize at the Sue Goetz Ross Student Competition for Voice in Bethesda, Maryland. She also performed in the winner’s recital immediately following the competition.
Jiayue also plays the violin and is a member of the Peabody String Sinfonia, a student-led, conductor-less ensemble of string players that holds performances in the Baltimore community to those who often do not have access to live music. She is also a junior counselor at the Laurel Music Camp in Connecticut where she mentors students in rehearsals, leads sectionals, and works in an administrative role to help the camp run smoothly.
Jiayue is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s of Music in Vocal Performance at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, where she is studying with William Sharp. She had previously received a diploma from Manhattan School of Music Pre-College division, where she studied with David Gordon.
